CPAN’s work in Nepal explores sustained escapes from poverty, resilience, the impacts of shocks and stresses on livelihoods, and the role of inclusive and gender-transformative policies to reduce chronic poverty. The latest findings show that despite progress in reducing extreme poverty, low economic and agricultural growth, weak public infrastructure, continued exclusion of disadvantaged groups, and conflict remain significant challenges in Nepal.

Lower-income countries cannot wait for the Covid-19 vaccine
Nov 16, 2020

New research suggests that people in low-income countries will be at the back of the line for vaccines. Yet, economic and social disruptions from the disease have had devastating impacts on those living in poverty. Delaying vaccine access in low-income countries would be a moral outrage.

Change is the only constant - Struggling to escape poverty in Nepal
Nov 1, 2017

This blog outlines the story of 50-year-old Nepalese woman. This is a story of tumultuous ups and downs, an escape from poverty followed by a series of shocks that has left her today in a state of despair. Food for thought to develop some initial policy implications on ensuring that escapes from poverty can be sustained in Nepal.

Making poverty reduction a priority in fragile areas
Jul 13, 2016

Fragility undermines efforts geared towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
